Across the Hudson in Jersey City residents are fighting for a project similar to the High Line, known as “Make My Park”. The idea is to take a former freightway that runs for 6 blocks along 6th Street in downtown and transform it into a public park and walkway, promenade style.
A massive stone structure, the embankment once served as the eastern terminus for the Pennsylvania Railroad and contributed to the growth of the Port of New York and the greater metropolitan area. It is 27 feet tall and up to 400 feet wide and for walkers, joggers, bikers, children and sun bathers, it will be an unbelievable addition to an area with a genuine need for more park space.
The embankment in Jersey City cuts right through the neighborhood, eastward towards the Hudson and is in the perfect location to continue to spruce up the downtown area. Apparently, there is growth up on the embankment that is now over 50 years old that supporters wouldn’t want to destroy and will be designed around.
As a resident, and big fan of Jersey City, I feel this is a no brainer, and I can’t wait until it’s available to use. I’m sure I’d be there several times a week roller-blading or relaxing!
Click to find out more info, or to get involved with this project.

When I was living there, I always wanted to go up there & explore. Would be a great addition to the city. My only worry is crime up there. But It’d be cool!
